Upcoming Happenings

Hey everyone. Just another way to communicate some of the things we have been talking about on Sunday mornings. We are already signing up for Elevation (Feb. 13-15), Student Life Camp in Gatlinburg (June 19-23), and the Denver Mission Trip. Some deadlines to be aware go like this: sign up and pay ($70) no later than January 11; SL Camp $50 deposit is due by Jan. 31; $50 deposit for Denver mission trip is due by Jan. 31. Now that I have told you about the outgo, here is a way that you can earn some of that money. We are only doing fundraising for the mission trip. We will have 3 events in the Spring in the hopes that all who want to go to Denver to serve churches and people there with the love of Jesus will be able to go with little or no cost. This should also open a door for students who would like to go to both camp and the mission trip. If they raise enough money they/you would only have to pay for one. We will be advancing info on the first fundraiser here in the next couple of weeks. I will tell you that it will be a Valentine's banquet for adults with students serving. More specifics are coming.
The last thing that we are signing up for is the Christmas Party on Wednesday, December 17. We will start telling everyone where it will be this Wednesday Decemeber 3. The cost is $5 and that covers food, games and prizes. If you need a ride you will need to indicate that so we can plan on getting you to the party. The party will be from 6-8:30.
Another last thing: if you would like to be a part of our student leadership team, please email me at mattgcbc@bellsouth.net or give me a call at the church. We will be signing up for more small groups in january and we still need some adults to serve on Wednesday nights with Roots (middle school).
Grace and peace,
Matt

Elevation Parents'/Particpants' Letter

Parents/Participants’ of Elevation ‘08
How exciting it is to be getting ready for Elevation 2008! While this is my first one here, it is by no means my first discipleship weekend. I have been praying that God would use this weekend and its leaders, students, speakers, bands and circumstances for both His glory and our joy in Him. We are asking that you would all be praying for God to move in mighty ways in the hearts and lives of students and leaders this weekend. A couple of things you can definitely pray for: 1.) that God would draw students to greater understanding and love for Himself 2.) that God would move students to deeper, more authentic relationships with each other 3.) that students would grow in their understanding of what God has done, is doing and will do in and through their lives as they follow Jesus 4.) for God’s mercy to be over all that is said and done this weekend (this includes safety, travel, games, sleep). These are things that we all need and will all benefit from. So with the most important things being said, here are some ground rules.
1. The host home parents and group leaders are in charge. This is important for every student to respect and honor so we can have a great weekend.
2. Do not bring any thing that could harm anyone emotionally or physically.
3. When you speak, do so to build up one another, not just tear down.
4. Get some sleep so you can actually be awake for your sessions and get the most out of the weekend.
5. Participate-we expect everyone to do everything that they are able to do. This will help you and your friends enjoy Elevation to highest level.

Make sure that you bring all of your stuff with you to the church Friday night and bring all of it back to the church with you Sunday morning so it all gets home with you. We are going to have a great weekend. Let’s ask God to make it amazing for His glory and for our lives to be conformed more to the image of His Son.

Grace and peace,
Matt

The New Blog is up

Welcome to our new blog for students and parents of Central Baptist Church in Winchester, KY. We are just getting started with this but this will be the up to date place to get all of the info, forms, and announcements you need. It will also be a place to post questions or prayer requests, submit ideas and dialogue about ministry. This will not be an ugly site but it will not be place for quizzes and silly things. This is going to be more about the nuts and bolts of the student ministry here at Central. Starting today we are going to put up several key forms that your student and family will need for elevation and the coming weeks. Please check back regularly so we can all be on the same page. Thanks to all of you that came to the meeting last night. I was very encouraged and appreciated all of your input and responses. If you have questions about the meeting or any of the ministry opportunities we talked about last night or you talked about with your family, post them in the comments part of this blog.
Grace and peace,
Matt
